چکیده

Distributed applications on networks of workstations are an increasingly common way to satisfy computing needs. However existing mechanisms for distributed programming exhibit poor performance and reliability as application size increases. The ISIS distributed programming system is being extended to support large scale distributed applications by providing hierarchical process gr(,ups. The principal idea is to incorporate hierarchy in the program structure and exploit this to limit the communication and storage required in any one component of the distributed program.

LPKP: location-based probabilistic key pre-distribution scheme for large-scale wireless sensor networks using graph coloring

Communication security of wireless sensor networks is achieved using cryptographic keys assigned to the nodes. Due to resource constraints in such networks, random key pre-distribution schemes are of high interest. Although in most of these schemes no location information is considered, there are scenarios that location information can be obtained by nodes after their deployment. In this paper,...

Scheduling Large-Scale Parallel Computations on Networks of Workstations

Workstation networks are an underutilized yet valuable resource for solving large-scale parallel problems. In this paper, we present \idle-initiated" techniques for eeciently scheduling large-scale parallel computations on workstation networks. By \idle-initiated," we mean that idle computers actively search out work to do rather than wait for work to be assigned. The idle-initiated scheduler o...

Predicting the Performance of Distributed Virtual Shared-Memory Applications

The use of networks of workstations for parallel computing is becoming increasingly common. Networks of workstations are attractive for a large class of parallel applications that can tolerate the higher network latencies and lower bandwidth associated with commodity networks. Several software packages, such as TreadMarksTM, have been developed to provide a common view of global memory, allowin...

Massive Parallelism with Workstation Clusters {

Workstation cluster computing recently has become an important and successful technique. The communication bottleneck limits this approach to small and medium sized conngurations of up to 30 workstations for most applications. This paper demonstrates that for certain algorithms massively parallel cluster computing using thousands of workstations in the Internet is feasible. It describes structu...

Application Development and Execution in a Virtual Computing Environment

As the size and complexity of high performance computing applications continue to increase, their computing, storage and connectivity requirements become more and more di cult to accommodate on any single computing platform. The Virtual Computing Environment (VCE) combines heterogeneous computing, storage and network resources into a exible system for the execution of large scale applications. ...
